Eleanor F. Guerette

SOUTH PORTLAND – Eleanor F. Guerette, 93, of South Portland, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday August 16, 2022, at the Gorham House.

She was born in Portland Feb. 12, 1929, the daughter of Francis and Mary (Foley) Marcoux. Raised in Portland, attended St. Dominic’s Elementary School and Cathedral High School. Eleanor was deeply devoted in her faith and known for her warm smile and sweet disposition.

Eleanor worked for several years at W.T. Grant. She began her career as a Salesclerk in the magazine department and was later promoted to Department Secretary. On May 12, 1956, she married the love of her life Donald Guerette and started their family. She was busy raising five children but found time to enjoy baking, shopping, and dining with her lifelong friends. She volunteered many years at the St. Dominic’s Mother’s Club, serving as Treasurer. Additionally, Eleanor volunteered for Catholic Charities of Maine. Over the years, she and Don attended St. Dominic’s, St. John the Evangelist, and Holy Cross Churches.

Don and Eleanor were fortunate enough to create lasting memories traveling. They particularly enjoyed visiting Switzerland and Ireland.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John A. Marcoux and best friends, Elaine Legassie and Barbara McFarland.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald; her children, Deborah Perreault and her husband Lou of South Portland, Stephen Guerette and his wife Donna of Scarborough, Dana Guerette and his wife Laurie of Scarborough, Joseph Guerette and his wife Susan of Cape Elizabeth and Timothy Guerette and his spouse Kerry Moran of Georgetown, Mass.; her grandchildren, Karissa and husband Steve Acciardo, Darren, Courtney, Justin, Samantha, Marc, and Kellie; and a great-granddaughter, Capri. Eleanor is also survived by brothers Frank Marcoux and his wife Marce of Cape Elizabeth and Robert Marcoux and his wife Vitaline of Yarmouth; and three nephews Michael, Christopher, and Sean.

Visiting hours will be Monday August 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland on Tuesday August 23 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
