Lawrence “Larry” J. Caruso

WESTBROOK – Lawrence “Larry” J. Caruso, 64, of Westbrook, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away July 7, 2022, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born July 3, 1958, in Long Branch, N.J. to his parents, Daniel J. Caruso and Ann (Amato) Caruso, he grew up in North Plainfield, N.J. Larry was a graduate of North Plainfield High School, class of ’76 and chose the University of Maine at Machias to continue his education. Dan and Ann would bring their family to Down East Maine for vacation starting in the early 1970s and Larry fell in love with the State and it’s residents. He chose to make his home here, although he lived in other states for short periods while building his career(s) which ranged from Importing Modular Homes from Canada, Telecommunications and Data Sales, and Manager of Security at FairPoint Communications.

Larry met his wife Patti Stilphen in 1991 and together they traveled all around the country for vacations big and small, usually their trips where centered around visits with relatives and friends who he cherished. Larry was a very affectionate, confident, passionate, kind, thoughtful adventurous person that made you feel you had known him forever as soon as you met him.

Larry enjoyed fishing, especially with his dad who would tell people “That Kid could catch fish in a mudpuddle”, golf, baseball, football were his sports of choice He played football and baseball at North Plainfield High School and continued to play baseball at UMM, Also the Indy 500 was a must for him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife; father, mother; sisters Martha Dietrick (Steve), Peg Caruso, sisters-in-law Susan Beckwith, Shirley Stilphen and Jean Olson, nieces and nephews Kayte Pritchard (Travis), Tori Sabo, Blake Dietrick, Tucker Dietrick, Brandie (Regan) Goan, Erica Stilphen, Dennis Anderson, Melissa Boxer, Justin Stilphen, and James Stilphen; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Larry was an advocate for at-risk teens and was on the board of directors and volunteered his time at the teen center.
