Jean Frances (Gilbert) Sanborn

WESTBROOK – Jean Frances (Gilbert) Sanborn, 93, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Jean was born June 22, 1929, in Madison, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Gilbert.

She graduated from the Goodwill-Hinkley School in Fairfield. She trained as a nurse at Maine Medical Center, where she continued and completed her 37-year career, retiring in 1986 as Director of Parent and Child Nursing. She will always be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes, gentle smile, and kind and caring manner. A true nurse to everyone she met.

It was at Maine Medical Center that she met her husband, Warren. They were married in 1951. Soon after, they made their home at Halidon Road in Westbrook. Upon retiring, she and Warren realized their dream of living year-round at their home on Pequawket Lake in Brownfield. Jean and Warren later returned to Westbrook to reside at Larrabee Heights. Jean spent her final year in residence at The Cedars in Portland.

Jean loved knitting, crocheting, puzzles and playing bingo. But most of all she treasured time spent with her family and dogs.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Warren Sanborn, Jr.; and son, Dana Sanborn.

She is survived by her son, Gary Sanborn and his wife, Gail, daughter, Nancy Morse and her husband, Arthur; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In keeping with wishes, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
