Victoria Peter Lagios

SOUTH PORTLAND – Victoria Peter Lagios, passed away peacefully at her home in South Portland on Feb. 15, 2022. For many years, she resided in Concord, Mass. where she and her husband raised their children.

Born on March 4, 1928 in Southbridge, Mass., she was one of nine Themistocles children raised by her loving parents, Peter and Claire Themistocles. Victoria was born and raised in Southbridge, Mass. After studying at Boston University, she worked as a secretary in the Economics Department at Harvard University. That is where she was introduced to Dr. Socrates A. Lagios, her true love. Immediately after marrying in 1957, they went to live in Larissa, Greece where Soc was teaching, and then travelled through the Middle East and Europe for 14 months.

Victoria had a gift of being able to start a conversation with anyone and had deep connection with all living creatures. She was remembered by one brother as the “one who brought home strays.” She loved to tell stories about her parents and siblings and loved to laugh. She loved and was fiercely proud of her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Catherine, Eleftheria, Vera and Rena, and brothers, Michael, Van, Sam and Chris. She is survived by her son, Eric Lagios and his wife Lisa of South Portland, her daughter Daphne Lagios and her husband Gary Acheson, of Vancouver, Wash.; and her amazing grandchildren, Nicholas, Kate and husband Joshua, and Hunter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff of RiverPlace for creating a safe and friendly place for her to live independently.

Victoria’s family will gather for a private funeral service at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lexington, Mass., followed by burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Mass., where she will join her beloved husband in eternal rest.
