OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Roger J. Stevens, 73, passed away on Saturday May 8, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. He had been battling cancer on and off for the past three years. Although the last few months of his life were very difficult, he took great solace in watching the birds and enjoying the company of his family. He kept a positive demeanor right to the end and definitely kept his sense of humor.

Roger was a Sergeant in the Second Infantry Division, overseeing a howitzer in an artillery battalion that was stationed along the DMZ in Korea. He was also trained as an Imjin Scout, participating in reconnaissance patrols within the DMZ.
After his service, he returned home to Maine. He worked for 37 years with the Public Works Department of Old Orchard Beach. He loved his job and he loved working for the Town. He took great enjoyment in clamming, fishing, chopping wood, telling jokes and keeping busy outdoors. Roger was a member of the Old Orchard Beach Conservation Committee and oversaw the Maine Plover Project in Old Orchard Beach.
Roger met his wife Cindy on the beach in 1972. He married Cindy Harmon of Saco, Maine, in 1981 and had two children, his son Jesse and daughter Holly. He spent lots of time with his family and friends, days at the beach, camping, town sporting events and get togethers. He brought lots of happiness to others and lived a great life.
