OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Maj. Blanche Chavarry, 96, was promoted to Glory on May 5, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Hallowell, Nov. 7, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Jeanette Pushard Chavarry. Blanche attended local schools and in 1947 she attended The Salvation Army Officers Training School in New York City. Her various stations included Fall River, Mass., West Haven, Conn., Lewiston, Auburn, Westbrook, Portsmouth, N.H., statistician at Divisional Headquarters, Church Women United Representative while stationed in Rutland, Vt., Corps Officer for Sanford, retiring to Old Orchard Beach in 1986. While in Old Orchard Beach she was a member of the women’s league and volunteer for the Pavilion. Blanche enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, doing word search, knitting, having morning coffee at Beach Bagel and always having a pot of coffee on at The Salvation Army Corps kitchen.She is predeceased by a brother, Frank J. Chavarry Jr. and a sister, Maryellen Slade. Survivors include two sisters Fernanda Hanchett of Arlington, Va., and Cynthia Miller of Brookhaven, Pa. and husband Kurt, a brother, Richard Chavarry of Corpus Christi, Texas and wife Terri; 12 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call Saturday May 22, from 10 to 12 p.m. at The Salvation Army Corps in Old Orchard Beach. A noon service will follow at the corps, burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
