Falmouth’s Sofie Matson wins the mile at Saturday’s Class A state meet.

Last weekend’s outdoor track and field state championship meets didn’t produce a local team champion, but many individuals were dominant.

Class A

At the Class A state meet in Lewiston, Falmouth’s girls tallied 40 points to come in fifth (Cheverus repeated with 100 points). The Yachtsmen got wins from distance standout Sofie Matson in both the mile (4 minutes, 59.29 seconds) and two-mile (in a new record time of 10:33.05). Emma Harrington was first in the discus (125 feet, 4 inches). Karley Piers was third in the two-mile (11:12.68) and placed fourth in the mile (5:11.84).

The Falmouth boys finished with 45 points and paced seventh (Scarborough won again with 110 points). The Yachtsmen were paced by Douglas Cooke, who was runner-up in the 400 (50.31 seconds) and fifth in the high jump (6 feet), Joshua Bradford, who placed second in the shot put (51-7.5), and their runner-up 4×400 relay team (Kyle Bouchard, Alvaro Fuentes, Ben Greene and Cooke, 3:30.98). Falmouth’s 4×100 relay squad (Ethan Ali, Fuentes, Friedman and Bouchard) placed third (44.33). John Auer finished third in the mile (4:29.98). Fuentes placed fourth in the 200 (23.24). Adrian Friedman came in sixth in the long jump (20-4).

Class B

In the Class B boys’ meet in Brewer, Greely had 53 points and was runner-up to York (63.33). Atticus Smith won the 400 (51.06), Matthew Todd took the 800 (2:00.52) and Luke Marsanskis won the two-mile in 9:57.71. That triumvirate was also part of a champion 4×800 relay team, which also included Riley Franklin (8:24.76). Franklin was third in the two-mile (10:08.93). Nicolas Giandrea came in fourth in the two-mile (10:19.62). The Rangers’ 4×400 relay team (Todd, Smith, Isaac Moore and Jake Westra) placed fifth (3:39.71).

Yarmouth (25 points) came in 13th. Noah Eckersley-Ray led the way with a runner-up showing in the javelin (151-3). Wyatt Bates came in third in the 110 hurdles (15.71). Chris Koskinen was fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.95) and fourth in the pole vault (12-6). Ben Cox-Faxon was seventh in the two-mile (10:26.69). The Clippers’ 4×800 relay team (Sean Whynot, Conor Wolff, Odeh Rizkallah and Cox-Faxon) placed sixth in 8:52.16.

Freeport (18 points) tied Camden Hills and Maine Central Institute for 16th place. Martin Horne finished fourth in the mile (4:36.91) and seventh in the 800 (2:04.95). Nick Mitch was fourth in the 800 (2:03.35). Adam Ulrickson placed fourth in the 200 (23.86) and seventh in the 100 (11.75). Owen Patrick finished sixth in the 800 (2:04.48). The Falcons’ 4×400 relay team (Ulrickson, Horne, Patrick and Mitch) came in sixth in 3:39.86.

Brewer won the Class B girls’ meet with 84 points. Greely (45) finished sixth, Freeport (21) was 12th and Yarmouth (3) came in 25th.

The Rangers were led by Marin Provencher, who won the mile in 5:19.27 and was runner-up in the two-mile (11:44.30). Greely’s 4×800 relay team (Abby Irish, Julia Curran, Provencher and Carolyn Todd) was runner-up in 10:03.89. Todd was fourth in the two-mile (11:55.14) and fifth in the 800 (2:28.56). Maggie McCormick placed fourth in the pole vault (9-6). Olivia Marsanskis was fifth in the pole vault (8-6). Julia Bisson finished fifth in the discus (99-4). Curran came in seventh in the two-mile (12:05.14). Irish finished seventh in the 800 (2:28.79).

The Falcons were paced by Catriona Gould, who was runner-up in the 100 (12.72) and came in fourth in the 200 (27.18). Tara Migliaccio placed fourth in the 400 (1:01.85). Shaina Curry was fourth in the high jump (4-10). Freeport’s 4×400 relay team (Hannah Spaulding, Faith Brichetto, Emmie Riendeau and Migliaccio) was seventh (4:23.95).

The Clippers’ points came from Paige Reinfelder (sixth in the pole vault, 8-6) and Caitlen Hewitt (seventh in the javelin, 93-4).

Class C

North Yarmouth Academy took part in the Class C state meet in Farmington.

The Panthers boys had 13.5 points and finished 15th (Sacopee Valley won the title with 69 points). NYA’s 4×400 relay team (Jack Lent, Ethan Haag, Aiden Kusche and Te’Andre King) placed second in 3:42.01. Lent finished fifth in the 300 hurdles (43.91). Haag was seventh in the 400 (54.33) and seventh in the long jump (19-4.25). King tied for seventh in the high jump (5-8).

The Panthers girls’ team didn’t score (Orono was first with 112 points).

New Englands

The New England championships are Saturday at Thornton Academy.
