The Maine Development Foundation’s Maine Downtown Center has launched an interactive web portal designed to attract visitors to main streets across the state.

The website features local businesses, events and natural attractions in the 10 Main Street Maine communities, which collaborated with the Maine Downtown Center and the Maine Office of Tourism on the project.

“People come to Maine to discover one-of-a-kind places and Main Streets have them in a big way,” said Anne Ball, program director of the Maine Downtown Center. “We’ve learned from the Maine Office of Tourism that today’s visitors seek cultural, food and unique experiences. They want to know about world-renowned museums in Rockland and Brunswick, the newest restaurants in Belfast and Augusta, great boutiques in Biddeford, cool breweries in Westbrook and Saco, and the best festivals in Skowhegan and Gardiner.”

The 10 Main Street Maine communities are Augusta, Biddeford, Bath, Belfast, Brunswick, Gardiner, Rockland, Saco, Skowhegan and Westbrook. The programs are accredited by Main Street America, a national preservation-based economic development and community revitalization organization.
