LYMAN — Richard A. Martel, 68, of Lyman, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

He was born May 22, 1947, in Biddeford, a son of Lucien and Alice (Gagne) Martel.

Richard attended St. Louis High School and Biddeford High School, from which he graduated in 1965. He was accepted into the apprenticeship program of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and worked there 25 years. For the past 18 years, Richard was a truck driver for Bell-Simons in Biddeford.

On April 11, 1980, he married Patricia Durant in Saco.

Richard was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Kristen Davis, in 2003.

He is survived by: Patricia Martel, his wife of 36 years, of Lyman; three children, Shon Martel and Shay Lawrence of Sanford, and Shain Martel of Springvale; a step-daughter, Kimberly Killer of Bath; a sister, Diane Hinkel of Yuma, Arizona; a brother, Steven Hebert of Kennebunk; a sister, Nancy Ashcraft of Biddeford; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
