Police on Friday identified the driver who was killed Wednesday in a crash on Route 27 in Boothbay as Jamieson W. Brown, 73, of Boothbay.

Brown was dead by the time emergency workers arrived at the single-car crash at 9:30 a.m. The 2007 Jeep SUV, was going south on Route 27 when it left the road, went into a ditch and hit a utility pole. The vehicle sustained significant damage to its front end and driver’s side.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating whether Brown suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
