WISCASSET

Several candidates have been identified for the vacant town planner position in Wiscasset as the town prepares a team to conduct candidate interviews.

Former Town Planner Misty Parker resigned from the position, effective Oct. 3, to take an economic development position with the city of Lewiston.

The town has received eight responses since the vacancy was listed on the Maine Municipal Association’s job website, Town Manager Marian Anderson said in a press release.

The town planner is responsible for fostering the growth and development of the town in adherence to local, state and federal regulations and ordinances.

“The Town Planner position is a key professional leadership position whose purpose is to assist the public and serve as valued technical advisors to both citizens and businesses,” said Anderson.

The Town Planner provides staff support to the Planning Board, Ordinance Review Committee, Conservation

Commission and Waterfront Committee, she said.

Interviews are expected to begin the first week of November, said Anderson, and the interview team will be comprised of Anderson, Chairperson of the Board of Selectmen Pam Dunning, and members of the Ordinance Review and Waterfront committees.

Parker submitted her resignation on Sept. 22 after serving as town planner in Wiscasset for three years. Prior to that, Parker worked in Waldoboro as the community development director for one year.

At Wiscasset’s May Town Meeting, residents voted 138- 33 to pass a $77,384 budget for the municipal planning department, defeating the budget committee’s recommendation of $50,884, which would have reduced the town planner’s hours from 40 to 20 per week.
