WATERBORO — At 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, representatives from the York County Sheriff’s Office and Caring Unlimited will lead a community conversation about domestic abuse and violence.

The event will take place at the Lakeside Community Church at 1248 Sokokis Trail. The session will feature information about the dynamics of domestic abuse and violence, as well as how to be helpful to a friend, family member, neighbor or coworker who is being abused. The event is free and open to the public.

In 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that one in three women will be in a relationship with an abuser at some point in their life. Men, children, teens and seniors can be victims of domestic abuse as well. A coordinated community response is needed to address this widespread problem and bring an end to domestic abuse in York County, advocates say.

Caring Unlimited offers a variety of services in Sanford, Biddeford, Waterboro and Kittery. The 24-hour, confidential, toll-free hotline can be reached at 1-800-239-7298.

For questions about the event, contact Maj. Thomas Baran at 459-2202 or tmbaran@co.york.me.us.
