Brad Fox, District 5 candidate for South Portland city council, has reinvigorated my faith and interest in local government.

As an active volunteer, retired school principal, business collaborator and local educator, he shines a light on the underrepresented residents in our community.

A Brick Hill resident living in a diverse renter’s neighborhood, he reminds us that South Portland is growing. And while he is ever aware of big issues facing the city, he is also keen to address our municipal infrastructure: zoning, land use, water and sewer, schools, and the need for more street lights and cross walks to help keep neighborhoods safe. He is a friend to residents and businesses alike and his goal is to address the essence of community in every part of town and the city as a whole.

While some candidates talk tax breaks, he reminds us that we have residential neighborhoods with sub-par services and residents that live below the poverty line. He wants to inform our electorate and involve people from all over South Portland. He doesn’t just talk the talk. He substitute-teaches in our schools, volunteers in the Community Hub, assists with after-school homework programs and hosts informational gatherings. He brings his skills as an educational administrator to the greater community at large.

It is important to be mindful of taxes, but a city councilor’s platform needs to be broader than that. As voters, we need to do more than vote for someone just because they will keep our taxes low. Brad Fox has experience balancing budgets and is also in a position to address the growing needs of South Portland. He will bring knowledge, experience and a fresh perspective to our council, and will help bring out the best South Portland has to offer.
