Freeport is unique and extraordinary. Families here forge strong connections to neighbors, our schools and our community. We have an entrepreneurial spirit and drive for excellence that launched an international retail giant based upon a simple guarantee of quality. How lucky we are, in this small town, to have Freeport Community Services, Freeport Community Players, Greater Freeport Community Chorus, Freeport Lioness-Lions Club, Freeport Rotary Club, Freeport Elders, Freeport Historical Society, Freeport Conservation Trust and Wolfe’s Neck Farm, among many other wonderful organizations. We advocate for what is important and don’t hesitate to roll up our sleeves to better our town or to help our neighbors in need. We seek to raise our children in that same spirit.

We now know returning to a Freeport School District will not hurt Freeport financially. Current students can stay together and enjoy excellent academics, activities and services to meet individual student needs. We have a unanimously approved agreement with RSU 5, crafted over eight months of thoughtful negotiations. We are ready to take the first step to a new beginning for our schools. We are ready to reconnect them to our town.

A new vision for Freeport High School is essential. The spark began at the FHS Visioning Forum in the spring and continued with the presentation by PDT Architects before the Town Council in September – there was a palpable electricity in the air. We can renovate and innovate our high school to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. We can stop the RSU budget debates and refocus our considerable strength, entrepreneurial spirit and our love of learning, arts and community to benefit our schools.

I am excited to see Freeport again take its rightful place as a top educational competitor in the region. Please vote yes on Nov 4.
