Police are investigating the cause of a head-on collision on Route 201 in Topsham Monday night at around 6 p.m. One driver was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and the other to Mid Coast Hospital. DARCIE MOORE/THE TIMES RECORD

Police continue to investigate the cause of a two vehicle head-on crash on Route 201 Monday night that sent two drivers to area hospitals.

The crash, which occurred near American Way, was reported at approximately 6 p.m. Responding emergency personnel blocked the road and detoured traffic at Meadow Road and West Schoolhouse Crossing Road.

 

 

According to Topsham Police Sgt. Robert Ramsay, two vehicles collided. The vehilces involved were a silver Volkswagen Jetta driven by Steven Blanc, 40, of Bowdoin; and a Saturn Vue driven by Suzanne Clark, 50, of Brunswick.

Both drivers were conscious and alert at the scene. Clark was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and Blanc was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. 

A Brunswick crash reconstruction team responded to the scene and police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. 

Topsham Fire and Rescue responded, and Bowdoin Fire Department responded with a rescue vehicle to provide additional lighting. The road reopened at around 8:30 p.m. and police and fire personnel cleared the scene a short time after.
