SKOWHEGAN — Authorities say a report of a grenade at The Towne Motel turned out to be a toy.

A portion of the motel was evacuated after a report that a grenade was found near the building and an oil tank, according to authorities. Shortly after 1 p.m., authorities determined it was a toy grenade.

Shortly after noon, police tackled and handcuffed a man who crossed the yellow police tape around the area.

Skowhegan police, fire and rescue personnel were on the scene at the Madison Avenue motel, and the Maine State Police bomb squad were called.
