BANGOR – An Orrington woman who crashed her car, killing her friend, after a night of bar hopping has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years behind bars.

Sarah Courtney was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest last month to manslaughter and drunken driving charges. She also got four years’ probation and was ordered to pay $10,000 to the victim’s family to cover funeral costs.

Because the 34-year-old Courtney is pregnant she will not start serving her sentence until March.

Prosecutors say Courtney was driving in April 2013 when she crashed in Hampden. Her passenger and friend, 28-year-old Sarah Eason of Hermon, died.

Police say Courtney was speeding and had a blood alcohol content almost twice the legal limit to drive.

Courtney said in court she feels “remorse … sorrow, shame and guilt.”
