On the mound, Lillie McLaughlin pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks.

Jacelyn McNeill homered off of McLaughlin, and Ali Gagnon picked up a single for Morse, 3-8 and slated to visit Leavitt today.

McNeill pitched for the Shipbuilders, surrendering nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

“Again, we played good enough defense, even though we allowed three unearned runs,” said Morse coach Will Laffely. “We did not get the hits needed to score. We are putting the ball in play, but just not finding the gaps to get base hits.”

Brunswick held Cony scoreless in the first inning before the Rams added two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Brunswick responded with a run in the top of the third as freshmen Ketty Stinson walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Julia Carpenter sacrificed Stinson to third and Mary Sasso drove the run home with a single.

The Dragon defense got a groundout to Ashley Howe at third base in the bottom half of the inning, and then the next 10 Cony batters scored with Kassidy Turgeon and Margaret Russell delivering run-scoring doubles each. The Rams collected eight hits and walked five times during the inning.

Cony scored seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth with Turgeon delivering the big blast, a home run.

Skyler Watson picked up the win for Cony although the 0-10 Dragons hit the ball sharply.

Watson struck out three batters and walked two. Howe and Maddie Wilkes joined Sasso with hits for Brunswick.

“We felt we could compete with them (Cony), and then a few balls dropped in out of our reach before things got out of hand,” said Sasso. “It’s frustrating, but we’ll bounce back to compete against Skowhegan tomorrow.”
