TOPSHAM

Topsham police have, for now, suspended the search for a 16-year-old boy last seen since Tuesday night.

Today on its Facebook page Topsham police announced that they are trying to find Matthew Plutchak, 16, of 244 Parliament Circle. The Maine Warden Service and a Bath Fire Department bloodhound have assisted in the search.

Shortly after 1 p.m. today the Sagadahoc County Communications Center issued a town-wide Code Red — automated “reverse 911” calls to landline phones as well as text messages to cell phones registered with the county E911 system.

Plutchak, a student at Mt. Ararat High School, was reported missing Tuesday night at around 10:46 p.m. Police initially said that according to the last friends to talk with him last night, Plutchak was planning to go onto the trails behind his Parliament Circle home, possibly to camp out. Later this afternoon Topsham police said it appears this information was incorrect and no one saw the teen enter the woods.

Authorities say the teen “is not in any trouble at this point, we only want to make sure he is safe.”

Police have learned that Plutchak was seen walking on Main Street in Topsham between 10:20 and 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, between Goodwin’s Volvo and Dairy Queen and no one is known to have heard from him since. Plutchak indicated someone would be picking him up at Dairy Queen. He was last seen wearing a green graphic type sweatshirt and cargo shorts. He is described as 6-foot-2-inches with blond hair and blue eyes.

Officers finished following up on all information and suspended the search because they had no further details to act on.

Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sagadahoc County Communications Center at 443-9711.
