NORWAY — Norway Savings Bank recently presented the Maine Housing and Building Materials Exchange (BME) with a check for $5,000 for the Building Material Supply Fund for low-income families.
The funding will provide grants to income-eligible households in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Oxford and Sagadahoc counties that are in need of urgent home repairs, weatherization upgrades or code improvements.
“We are so pleased to support BME’s efforts to provide grants and education that help lowincome homeowners make necessary repairs to keep their homes safe for their families,” said Patricia Weigel, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank.
BME is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help lowincome homeowners and the environment by keeping usable building materials out of landfills and provide those new and reusable materials at an affordable price. BME operates a 14,400-square-foot warehouse at 102 Lisbon Road in Lisbon which houses building materials that have been donated by manufacturers and distributors, as well as some retailers and individuals. Ninety-five percent of the materials available through BME are new, giving homeowners an opportunity to make improvements or repairs to their homes, even on a very tight budget.
