PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine man who was stripped of the right to a court-appointed lawyer before being convicted of robbery is due to be sentenced.

Joshua Nisbet of Scarborough had two lawyers serving in standby capacity at his trial. He’s agreed to let them represent him at his sentencing today in Superior Court by Justice Thomas Warren.

Nisbet was convicted earlier this month of robbing a convenience store at knifepoint. He’d been jailed since 2011 while awaiting trial.

The judge ruled he “forfeited” his right to a lawyer after he went through five court-appointed attorneys while awaiting trial. All five had asked to be removed from the case.
