A May 16 article, “Council looking for cuts,” stated: “A 3.5 percent increase in property taxes would mean about a $140 tax bill increase for a property assessed at $150,000. The increase would support a combined $36.7 million budget.” According to Brunswick Finance Director and Interim Town Manager John Eldridge, as originally proposed the total budget was $59,076,025 with a tax rate increase 7.12 percent with $38,073,253 from property taxes. At a tax rate increase of 3.5 percent, the total budget is $57,914,593. This requires $36,779,321 from property taxes.
