TOPSHAM — Dozens of Mid-coast residents braved single-digit temperatures to attend the New Year’s event at the Topsham Fairgrounds.

The event kicked off a year-long celebration of the town’s 250th anniversary. Residents bundled in winter gear young and old gathered around a blazing bonfire starting at 8 p.m. Children seem unphased by the cold and played in snow piles as their parents sucked up the warmth of the fire.

Shortly after 9 p.m. the community event ended with a fireworks show.

The 250th anniversary committee planned the kick-off event and welcome and encourage members of the public and business community to join in the celebration and plan or help with an event.
