AYER, Mass. — Deb Savoie, age 57, of 4 Mountain Ave., Ayer, Mass., died Dec. 25, 2013, of pancreatic cancer. She was married to Alden Smith, 59, and has two children, Jason Smith, 23, and Leah Smith, 21.

Deb was born in Brunswick, Maine. She received a B.A. in physics and French from the University of Maine Orono in 1978, and a B.E.E. in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton in 1982, a certification in Software Technical Writing from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2000, and a certificate in Biotechnology Project Management from the University of California San Diego/University of Washington in 2011. She was employed as a senior program manager at Cadence Design Systems in Chelmsford, Mass.

Deb had many interests in her life. She was passionate about cooking and gardening. She enjoyed handicrafts especially knitting and quilting. In her late 40s she learned to play the saxophone and was a member of the Nashoba Valley Concert Band and an Indian Hill Jazz ensemble. She loved reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Her greatest love was for her family. Together they shared a life of outdoor activities, sports, games, camping and vacationing throughout New England. It was the time spent with family which provided joy and meaning to her life.

At Deb’s request, there will be no funeral service. The family will meet privately at their home to celebrate her life. Flowers may be sent to the home or money donated to your favorite charity.
