On Tuesday, Sept. 17, at about 10:13 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a theft at the Circle K convenience store at the corner of North Raymond Road and Route 26 in Gray.

According to Captain Shawn O’Leary, a male who was later identified as Christopher C. Chambers entered the store to get beer and walked out refusing to pay, threatening the clerk with physical violence in the process. The clerk confronted Chambers outside of the store when another individual, later identified as Nicholas E. Norton, also threatened the clerk with physical violence, O’Leary said.

Both individuals fled the scene in a vehicle but were later located a short distance away in Gray. With the assistance of the Maine State Police and Cumberland County deputies, both individuals were arrested without incident.

No weapons were displayed, and no victims or witnesses were harmed or injured in what O’Leary described as a strong-arm robbery.

Chambers, 27, a transient with a last-known address in Portland, is charged with robbery, theft and probation violation and is being held at Cumberland County Jail. Bail is set at $5,000.

Norton, 25, of 314 Shaker Road, Gray, is charged with robbery and disorderly conduct and is being held on $2,500 bail.
