On Saturday, Sept. 29, students, parents, families, teachers and community members will gather in the garden at George E. Jack Elementary School on Route 35 in Standish.
The school has been chosen to host a School Garden Open House, a celebration of the five existing school gardens in School Administrative District 6. The event is sponsored every year by the Maine School Garden Network and is meant to showcase school gardens statewide, boost support and community involvement, and spread the word about the positive effects of an integrated garden curriculum.
From 1-3 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the hands-on learning that happens in the garden, take a garden tour, munch on healthy, farm-fresh snacks, participate in family art activities, and experience the power of garden education. Molly Sauvain and Ian Hammond, the education team at Standish-based Rippling Waters Organic Farm, will be on hand to explain what happens in this outdoor classroom throughout the year. A true community celebration, all are welcome at this event.
