PHIPPSBURG — Shirley H. Murphy, 91, of Parker Head Road died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

She was born in Phippsburg on July 8, 1920, a daughter of Henry W. and Estella ( McKenney) Alexander.

On January 16, 1938 she married Arthur F. Murphy. She was employed at the Sebasco Freezer, dug clams and at Auback Shoe until retiring.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, driving her car and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sebasco Nazarene Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur F. Murphy in August of 1983, one son, baby boy Alexander, one daughter, Joann Murphy, one great granddaughter, Stephanie Westrum on July 8, 2010 and many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Josephine Chaney and her husband Merle, Jr. of Phippsburg and Ivirna Tremblay of Bath, four brothers, Lendell Alexander of Topsham, Richard Alexander of West Bath, Russell Alexander of Phippsburg and Henry Alexander of Phippsburg, one sister, Edith Burgess of Phippsburg, one half-brother, Duane Alexander of Palermo, one half sister, Ruth Dionne of New Hampshire, three step brothers, one step sister, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Sebasco Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Sebasco Nazarene Church.
