HARPSWELL— Frank V. Wright III, “ Bodie”, 94, of Harpswell and Stuart, FL, died November 3, 2011 at home.

Mr. Wright was the son of Frank V. Wright II and Edith Cann Wright. He was born in Jaffrey, NH, September 23, 1917. He was educated in New Hampshire and Maine schools. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1940 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He completed a course in Naval Architecture at M. I. T. in 1942 and was employed at Boston Navy Yard during WWII, and was later transferred to Bath Iron Works. After WWII he worked for the State of Maine primarily designing, surveying and planning parks. In 1946 he was assigned the task of working in Georgetown, Maine designing a park on 80 pristine acres that had been given to Maine by Georgetown native, Walter Reid. Mr. Wright enjoyed his association with Mr. Reid and in October of this year Frank and his friends enjoyed a picnic at this magnificent park.

In 1947, Mr. Wright along with William B. Pierce each invested $25 and founded the engineering firm of Wright Pierce in Topsham, from which he retired as President in 1976. He became interested in real estate developing and in 1964, Mr. Wright and Paddy Aldred purchased and developed High Head, a premier area of Harpswell and later developed in Topsham and Brennen.

In 1979, Frank and his wife, Virginia moved to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he became a licensed real estate appraiser.

Mr. Wright was associated with many organizations and received many distinguished awards, including be voted the most valuable member of the Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce in 1971. In 2000 he was voted into the Athletic Hall of Fame of the University of New Hampshire.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Susanne W. Blood in 1992, by a stepson, Scott B. Woodbury in 1992 and a granddaughter, Kimberly Ormsby Johnson in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Barnes and his children, Patricia Watson and her husband Edmund, Frank Wright II and his wife, Katie, David Wright and his wife, Deborah, John Wright and his wife, Gladys; stepdaughter, Vicki Lochefort and her husband, Ronald and stepson, Mark Woodbury and his wife, Rosanne. He is also survived by his sister, Mr. William K. Millar of Brunswick, 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11th at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elijah Kellogg Church, Harpswell Center. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
